High Art in Friesland

Nearby Golden Tulip Tjaarda Oranjewoud and the beautiful Oranjewoud estate, lies Museum Belvédère. This is the museum for modern and contemporary art from the north of the Netherlands.

The elongated, modern museum building constitutes a diorama in which experiencing art is the sole objective. The museum occupies an almost natural position in the newly landscaped park; the dark façade almost disappears against its background of trees. The museum's cafeteria provides a great view of the exceptional museum park with its grand canal, modern Baroque gardens and the Oranjewoud estate.

Home base for artists from the north of the Netherlands
Museum Belvédère's permanent collection consists of contemporary art from Friesland. This means the museum is home to the principal 20th-century artists from the north of the Netherlands. Their paintings are exhibited together with those of like-minded artists from the Netherlands and Flanders.

The permanent collection includes works by Hendrik Werkman, Thijs Rinsema, Jean Brusselmans, Jan Mankes, Jan Altink, Gerrit Benner, Willem Hussem, Roger Raveel, J.C.J. Vanderheyden and Robert Zandvliet.

Five exhibitions per year
Museum Belvédère organises approximately five exhibitions per year. Moreover, the museum hosts countless cultural activities such as concerts, lectures and small theatre productions. Guided tours of the museum and the park can be reserved. The museum's various rooms can also be rented for meetings and parties.
